Examining Equity in Assignments - Monday, May 24th, 9:30-11:30am

Student work on assignments influences the extent to which they learn important concepts, their success, and their feelings about the extent to which they belong in an institution or major. In this workshop, we discuss features of assignments that perpetuate equity gaps and interfere with students' ability to demonstrate proficiency. We provide a range of simple ways that assignments can be improved to increase equity and support the success of all students. After learning these universal design principles, attendees will have opportunities to revise sample assignments to increase their validity and cultural relevance.
